Ghouls just wanna have fun!

NORTH DENVER — The summer heat has left and the leaves are beginning to change from green to gold – that means it is time to gear up for all of the ghoulish gaiety of Halloween! Northwest Denver never disappoints with its spooky spirit during the buildup to October 31st. We have put together a list of all the best events near the hood to trick and to treat at this month so that you can stop worrying about what to do and start worrying about what to wear!

Family Friendly Costume Capers

Bring the mini ghouls and ghosts in your lives to these family friendly trick-or-treat festivities. Who will you be this year? Local Northwest Denver businesses want to see you strut your stuff in your Halloween alter egos! Little Man Ice Cream’s annual costume contest and pumpkin carving contest will have an added pet costume contest, as will the Harvest Festival at Highlands Square. The ultimate “puttin’ on the dog” is at Woof in Boots…because Halloween in Denver just doesn’t exist without some well-dressed howlers.

LoHi: Pumpkin Carving and Costume Contest: October 22. 2-5PM.   Little Man Ice Cream, 2620 16th St. Pumpkins and costumes will be judged for spookiness, originality, cuteness, best group and best pooch or cat. Highlands: Harvest Festival at Highlands Square: October 23. 2-5PM.   32nd Ave. between Julian and Perry St. The Highlands Merchants Association will be hosting a free harvest festival full of trick or treating, pumpkin painting with Pinot’s Palette, bouncy castles, local crafts and artisans, live music with Old Fuss and Feathers, a cash beer garden, and costume contests for pets and people. West Denver: Woof in Boots: October 28. 7-9PM.    Maxfund Animal Shelter, 719 W. 8th Avenue. Bring your pets for the 5th Annual Howlin’ Halloween Pet Costume Party. Pooches and pups will be judged, but so will you for having the best owner costume or the best combo costume! Proceeds from this event will benefit the Maxfund Animal Shelter. woofinboots.com

Downtown: Children’s Museum Trick or Treat Street: October 28-30. 9AM-6PM.   Children’s Museum, 2121 Children’s Museum Dr. Play carnival games, make crafts, and enjoy a weekend of family-friendly fun as your kiddos stock up on all the treats they will need this Hallowee-kend. mychildsmuseum.org

Downtown: Central Library Trick or Treat Street: October 28., 3-6PM.   Denver Public Library, 10 W. 14th Ave.  Enjoy a free afternoon of safe and family friendly trick or treating throughout the library. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. denverlibrary.org

North Denver: North High School Trick or Treat Street: October 27. 6-8PM.   Annual community spook-fest complete with haunted house, spooky singing, arts & crafts, trick-or-treating and costume photo booths. Berkeley: Trick or Treat Street and Fall Festival: October 29. 10AM-2PM.   Cesar Chavez Park, 4131 Tennyson St. Celebrate the fall season and the growing Berkeley community with the Tennyson Berkeley Business Association (TBBA). Games and candy will be provided by the Harbor Church. tbbadenver.org

LoHi: Highland Haunt: October 29. 11AM-3PM.   32nd Ave. between Zuni and Clay. The ultimate Halloween street party features the Bryant Webster Mariachi band, piñatas, mechanical bulls, trick-or-treating, carnival games, a petting zoo, horse-driven hayrides and a costume parade at 1PM directly followed by a judged costume contest on the Zuni stage. FRIGHT FESTS & COSTUME BALLS

For the not so feint of heart and the creep-seekers amongst us, check out spine tingling ghost stories, zombie crawls, fright night flicks, silent or screaming costume balls and some booo-zy chills and thrills.

Zombie Burlesque Show: October 14 and 15. 8PM and 11PM.   Lannie’s Clock Tower Cabaret, 1601 Arapahoe St. The apocalypse has arrived! His captivating story-telling style will send shivers up and down your spine. Berkeley: Halloween Dance Party & Costume Contest-Oct 29. 9:30-Witching Hour.    Local 46, 4586 Tennyson St.  Dance party begins at 9:30; Costume contest at midnight.
