In news that will surprise no one, anti-smoking zealot New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg has endorsed a California initiative to increase cigarette taxes by $1 per pack.
Last year, Bloomberg signed a law banning smoking in New York city parks, beaches and public plazas. Smoking in city restaurants and bars had already been banned.
Other prominent supporters of Prop. 29 include cyclist Lance Armstrong and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. California voters will decide the issue on June 5.
