Obama calls IRS report findings ‘intolerable’ and ‘inexcusable’

Here’s a memo to all of those defending the IRS in its targeting of conservative groups for special scrutiny (not to mention the possible leaking of confidential documents): not even President Obama is willing to give the IRS a pass (publicly, at least). Tonight, in his official response to the inspector general’s report, the president called the findings “intolerable and inexcusable.” He also took the occasion to remind federal employees “to hold themselves to the highest ethical and moral standards” every day.

As for those who fail to hold themselves to those standards? President Obama says he’s directed Treasury Secretary Jack Lew to “hold those responsible for these failures accountable.”

Is there an echo in here, or is that just Donna Brazile?

I agree with President Barack Obama. The #IRS was out of bounds, out of place and simply wrong.

You don’t have to go down with the ship, Donna. “@donnabrazile: I agree with Obama. The IRS was out of bounds, out of place & simply wrong”

This is Nancy Pelosi’s daughter, so we’ll assume she’s not being sarcastic when she hails the statement as evidence of Obama’s “leadership.”

Obama releases IRS statement at 8:30 pm. #cowardice

Obama needs to deliver that speech in front of the press corps and answer questions. No dark-of-night press releases.

After claiming the #IRS was a separate entity and not under his control, Obama has ordered Lew to hold “those” who did this accountable.

Boy, under the Obama bus should be really full by now. #IRS
