Friday, the SEC and Big XII announced that beginning in 2014, the two conferences will match their champions in a post-season bowl game. The idea seems to be to create a game between the two conferences that mirrors the Rose Bowl opportunity that the Big Ten and Pac 12 currently have. This just continues what has been a wild stretch of conference expansion and shakeup in the college football world.

This Big 12/SEC announcement absolutely consolidates power, money in top four leagues. Sugar now mirrors Rose in tradition, money, power,

One thing that some college football fans have missed in recent years is the magnitude of the New Year’s Day slate of bowl games. This game is set to be played annually on January 1st.

You've gotta love that the SEC/Big 12 went ahead and claimed primetime Jan. 1 for themselves. No need for actual tv partner in place.

Another concern to sort through is the location of the game.

I'm told the meeting between the SEC and Big 12 champions would probably take place at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

But because the champions of the Big XII and SEC will most likely be involved in some sort of championship playoff, there is significant concern that this new bowl game will very often not be between the two champions.

Best I can tell, the SEC and Big 12 just agreed to play a game that'll never be played. Ever.
