Local police across Denver metro area to focus on highway speeding

Mar 02, 2021 by Staff in Community In an effort to increase traffic safety on Colorado’s highways, on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, the Denver Police Department and several Metro-area law enforcement agencies will join together to address excessive speeding on highways. Throughout the day, officers in the Metro Denver area will stop speeders on the highways to conduct enforcement and education on how their driving is putting them and other drivers at risk. When a driver speeds excessively or drives too fast for conditions, they increase the likelihood of a crash resulting in serious injury or death.

When a driver speeds excessively or drives too fast for conditions, they increase the likelihood of a crash resulting in serious injury or death.
By the Numbers: According to state data, there were 611 crash-related fatalities in Colorado in 2020.
According to NTSB data, speeding-related fatalities account for about 31% of all traffic fatalities. “Already this year, there have been two fatal crashes and five serious injury crashes on Denver’s highways,” said Denver Police Chief Paul M. Pazen. “The majority of vehicle crashes are preventable. We all have a role in traffic safety, and everyone must do their part to ensure we all arrive safely to our destination. Slow down and don’t drive distracted or impaired.”
Participating agencies include the Arvada Police Department, Aurora Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Denver Police Department, Greenwood Village Police Department, Lakeside Police Department, Lakewood Police Department, Wheat Ridge Police Department and Colorado Department of Transportation.
