Imagine Running Through The Woods When All Of A Sudden… WHOA! What’s This?

The Socrates Sculpture Park in New York hosts many wonderful works of art. Every year, there is a competition held and the park welcomes “proposals for large-scale projects and installations that explore contemporary interpretations of the architectural folly.” One of the most impressive pieces submitted to the annual folly competition, you won’t be able to see at first glance. That’s because it’s supposed to be invisible. A New York design company named STPMJ created the aptly named entry Invisible Barn. The project is a “visual illusion that blurs the perceptual boundary between the folly and the site, allows the folly to be disappeared and invisible in nature, reconstructing the landscape of the site.”

It would be made of wood and covered in mirror film, which makes the barn become one with nature, reflecting the surrounding trees.

From a distance, the building would be nearly invisible. But as you get closer, you can make out the shape of the barn and the different cut-outs in the wood.

What makes this piece SO beautiful is the fact that it reflects the trees, the season and the beauty of nature.

And nothing can top nature’s majesty.

(H/T My Modern Met) The annual folly competition is organized by the Socrates Sculpture Park and the Architectural League of New York. Even though nothing about the Invisible Barn is natural, it would blend into its surrounding so perfectly. Unfortunately, the barn was never built, but selected as a a notable entry of the competition. Share its incredible beauty with others.
