Obamacare error rate estimated at 10 percent of applications submitted

You might remember that the Washington Post’s Sarah Kliff was one of the reporters on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services conference call Monday. She asked four times (without an answer) what the 834 transmission error rate was. “834” forms contain the personal information for individuals who have signed up for health insurance and the details on their plan choices; in other words, the information insurers need to insure them.

Today, an administration official revealed to The New Republic’s Jonathan Cohn that the error rate is now estimated at 10 percent, down from 25 percent in October.
Cohn writes:
Yeah, it is pretty bad. At best, an error rate of one in ten files should amount to hundreds of thousands of erroneous files, which could lead to some nasty surprises as Americans head to the doctor in January with their new Obamacare plans.
Wasn’t this all supposed to have been fixed by now?

‘Oooof’: Ronan Farrow’s show suffers ‘unfortunate case of bad chyroning’ [pic]

Not exactly a red-letter day for Ronan Farrow and MSNBC:
Tweeters were understandably disturbed as that screen grab from today’s edition of “Ronan Farrow Daily” made the rounds:
It is real. Well, sort of. You see, “WTC jumpers” refers to the BASE jumpers arrested yesterday for a parachuting stunt at 1 WTC last fall:
Let’s just say MSNBC’s graphics department could’ve made that a little clearer:
That’s good advice. And Lord knows MSNBC needs all the good advice it can get.

‘Major trouble’: House GOP hopeful Carl DeMaio accused of sexual harassment [video]

That was bizarre and.. graphic. Still processing. RT @shiracenter: WTF just happened to Carl DeMaio on CNN just now. Wow.

— Noah Rothman (@NoahCRothman) October 10, 2014

Processing what, exactly?

@NoahCRothman Don't leave us in suspense. What happened? @shiracenter

— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) October 10, 2014

@gabrielmalor Graphic accusation of sexual harassment by former staffer in on-camera interview.

— Brian Faughnan (@BrianFaughnan) October 10, 2014

Oh dear.

So, DeMaio (R-CA) may have masturbated in a restaurant, and later sexually harassed a male aide.

— Noah Rothman (@NoahCRothman) October 10, 2014

From today’s edition of “The Lead”:

CNN has also posted a lengthy report on the allegations against openly gay GOP congressional candidate Carl DeMaio:

But behind the scenes, things are much messier. DeMaio’s former campaign policy director is accusing the candidate of sexual harassment, even saying DeMaio masturbated in front of him. DeMaio vehemently denies the allegations, saying they’re the cover story of a plagiarist and suspected criminal.

This is not the first time DeMaio has been accused of sexually inappropriate behavior. Last year, a fellow city councilman said he twice caught DeMaio masturbating in a city hall restroom — an allegation DeMaio denied.

Womp womp wommmmmp https://t.co/L7Mjh632S4 idea: don't run for office if someone can plausibly accuse you of jacking it in a restaurant

And San Diego continues to stay classy. RT @katherinemiller: These are some serious accusations against DeMaio http://t.co/zVSDleZzQK

Also against his accuser. RT @katherinemiller: These are some serious accusations against DeMaio http://t.co/iAP7z5908Y

— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) October 10, 2014

For the record, DeMaio denies the allegations:

“This is an individual that was let go by our campaign manager for plagiarism. A well-documented plagiarism incident of taking a report from the National Journal and passing it off as his own work,” DeMaio said. “He was terminated. He admitted that he plagiarized. He apologized for plagiarizing and when we told him he was no longer welcome in the staff and in the campaign office, even as a volunteer, he left. Days later, he broke in.”

In any event, it looks like DeMaio’s got a tough PR battle ahead.
