The Officer Who Didn’t Press Charges Against This Dog’s Abusers Has Faced Justice

If you’re an animal lover, you’ve probably been following the incredible case of a little pup named Libre.

In fact, we here at ViralNova wrote about his outstanding recovery last month. The poor dog dealt with horrific abuse and neglect, which resulted in a painful skin condition and a level of malnutrition that almost killed him. Fortunately, Libre is a fighter and the teams from Speranza Animal Rescue and the Dillsburg Veterinary Center never gave up on the determined dog.

What really struck readers, however, was the fact that no charges were filed against the people who almost ended this animal’s life. Although it was abundantly clear that Libre had been abused, the Humane Society officer who handled the case said that she would not bring them to justice.

That’s why we’re so happy to bring you this update. According to LancasterOnline, District Attorney Craig Stedman of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, sought the suspension of Susan Martin’s appointment as a Humane Society police officer.

(Another update is that Libre is feeling much better and is deeply in love with sticks.)

People were understandably outraged when Martin decided not to indict the breeder who willingly turned Libre over to the Lancaster SPCA in horrific condition.

Although he looks like any other fun-loving pup in the photos above, this is how he looked when he came to the facility.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); });

Stedman was equally horrified that the woman who could’ve brought these abusers to justice chose not to do so. For that reason, he and his team filed a motion for her suspension. Five days ago, she was officially removed from her post.

“Our justice system has to have integrity,” Stedman explained in a press conference. “The animals have the right to have somebody who will fairly and competently investigate those cases and file charges in appropriate cases.”

Although Libre’s recovery is of the utmost importance in this situation, it’s critical that those who commit acts of animal abuse are punished accordingly.

All Libre has to worry about now is having way too much fun with his rescuer, best friend, and new mama, Janine Guido!

This Is Definitely Not What You Want To Happen When You’re Inspecting A Boat

Here's how I feel about large bodies of water:

And here's how I feel about people willingly diving into large bodies of water for extended periods of time:

So you can imagine my concern when I came across this video that was shot back in 1991 by a few divers inspecting a damaged boat.

Of course, the boat went ahead and sustained damage on the hull instead of literally any other part, which meant that it had to be inspected from the water. "We made the assumption that if the ship was tied up, the bridge wouldn't turn on the [propellers]," one of the divers explained. "We were wrong."

Oh, honey bunches of NO.

<h3>I was about 80 percent over the ocean before I watched this video, and I've officially reached 100.</h3> <p>I'll stick to dry land. Thanks.</p> </div></div></div><p>Read more: <a href="http://www.viralnova.com/man-vs-propeller/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.viralnova.com/man-vs-propeller/</a>

Instead Of Getting Answers On This Scavenger Hunt, He Was Asked An Amazing Question

You know what’s awesome? Getting engaged. You know what’s even better? Saying “screw it” to doing things the old-fashioned way.

The girlfriend of Redditor Dan Cupples decided to take advantage of an old tradition on Leap Day last month when she put together one seriously impressive scavenger hunt. While planning it out, she jotted notes on pink hearts and made a map of the places around town that held significance in their relationship.

The goal was to help her favorite guy reminisce about all of the great memories they’ve shared before getting down on one knee and asking him a very important question.

Next to a bouquet of roses, Cupples found an envelope containing the first clue.

Off to the gas station he went!

That’s when this guy gave him his heart.

He had a hunch that his girlfriend wanted him to go to Tim Hortons.

And he was right!

Next up was a trip to McDonald’s.

var OX_ads = OX_ads || []; OX_ads.push({ slot_id: “537251602_56ef5dc38daf4”, auid: “537251602” });

That’s when she really started testing him.

Fortunately, Cupples managed to track down another note in the heart of the forest. That one sent him to a local grocery store.

He came across this hint while checking out.

After spending money on gas, food, and groceries, she let him run to the bank.

var OX_ads = OX_ads || []; OX_ads.push({ slot_id: “537251604_56ef5dc38dc7e”, auid: “537251604” });

To make sure that he was full when the big moment rolled around, she sent Cupples to his favorite pizza joint.

Almost there!

The final clue brought him back to where it all began.

When he arrived, his number one girl was right there waiting for him. That’s when she asked him to be her husband. Cupples wrapped up the Sadie Hawkins-inspired surprise by saying yes!

He plans on wearing the ring on a chain, and he’s going to get her a ring, too. Congrats to the happy couple on their wonderful engagement!

These Artists Illustrate Sleep Disorders In A Way That We Can All Understand

Sleep disorders are fickle beasts. There are few things more infuriating than staring at the ceiling for hours on end with no choice but to watch the clock tick down into oblivion. As if trapped in a living nightmare, those who suffer from sleep issues know that they’ll be faced with the same problems every single night — and paired with this painful reality is the constant stress that comes along with realizing that no one will ever understand how you feel.

They’ll never understand what it’s like to dread bedtime, or how painful it is to go about daily life when you’re running on fumes. And that’s why the work that these artists are doing is so important. Through animation and illustration, Petra Svajger and Maja Poljanc explore the psychology of disrupted sleep in an eye-opening series called PARASOMNIAs.

Extending beyond insomnia, the two artists aim to present disorders that are incomprehensible to those on the outside in a more visceral way.

Thinking about the nature of sleep on a conceptual level is a pretty daunting (and often fruitless) endeavor. That’s why they’ve decided to create visual alternatives to these abstract ideas. In the image above — fittingly titled REM Sleep — we’re confronted with the dancing eyes and vulnerable bodies associated with a form of sleep that those with chronic disorders never get to experience.

Not everyone can identify with the sensation of stuffing a waking mind into a sleeping body, but we can all tap into the frozen terror we’d experience if all of those monsters under the bed came out of hiding.

In Sleep Paralysis, the artists illustrate the sensation of staring fear in the face while being trapped inside an immovable body.

The collection also recognizes sleep issues that often fly under the radar.

Sleep Eating illustrates one of the most bizarre disorders in the bunch. After all, you can’t brush your teeth after meals that you don’t remember eating.

var OX_ads = OX_ads || []; OX_ads.push({ slot_id: “537251602_56eb9609c92de”, auid: “537251602” });

The animations attach familiar sensations to otherwise unfathomable conditions.

According to this piece called Restless Leg Syndrome, the disorder is akin to feeling the skin crawl on your perpetually moving legs. It really highlights the fact that RLS sufferers associate little to no relaxation with the thought of going to bed each night.

With simple illustrations, Svajger and Poljanc interpret sleep disorders in a way that’s at once plainly literal and completely inspired.

In the blink of an eye, Insomnia illustrates the draining sensation that comes with lying awake night after night in an endless cycle.

One of art’s many functions is to reinterpret phenomena from which we feel disconnected in everyday life, and that’s exactly what PARASOMNIAs does. It’s hard to consider the toll that sleep disorders take on sufferers if those conditions aren’t part of your reality. By attaching familiar imagery to concepts that might as well be floating out in the ether somewhere, it tethers each disorder closely enough to the ground to turn it into something recognizable.
