Using Google Maps, One Guy Discovered The Entire Alphabet Is Hiding In Cities.

While searching for an address on Google Maps, Yousuke Ozawa noticed something about the virtual buildings. Using the satellite images, he discovered the tops of several locations resembled letters of the alphabet.

The art director then went in search of all 26 letters. The project took him a week of zooming and scrolling over miles of cityscapes, but the eye strain was worth it when he succeeded in finding all letters. He then used those images to create the “Satellite Font.” You never know what you’ll discover when you look close enough.

(H/T: Laughing Squid.)

You can find all the letters over on his blog, and take a crack at creating your own monikers with the abstract alphabet. I just can’t imagine using these in an email.

Here Are The 9 Most Disgusting Things You’ve Been Eating Your Whole Life…And Had No Idea.

If we are what we eat, then everyone is in big trouble. What would you say if I told you that your favorite food, the one your mom made every Thanksgiving, the one you looked forward to eating all year long, contained some of the most disgusting and dangerous ingredients on the planet?  Or even worse, what if you found out the breakfast you ate this morning contained toxins banned in most third-world countries? Unfortunately, we’ve all probably gone fallen victim to at least one of these “ingredients,” if not more.  If you want to learn what to avoid in the future, you’ve got to check this out:

1. Borax – Listed under “ingredients” as E285, you can still buy caviar in the US containing this well known cleaning product

2. Flame Retardant – Better lay off the orange soda! Listed under “ingredients” as Brominated vegetable oil, you’ll find it in your citrus flavored soda.

3. Human hair – Oddly this “ingredient” is often listed as L-Cysteine. But you’ll commonly find it in bagels, cakes, and more!

4. Biodiesel Additive – Meet Tertiary butylhydroquinone, the “ingredient” you find in chicken nuggets. Uh oh…

5. Sand – If your soup tastes gritty, now you know why. Just check the ingredient list for silicon dioxide.

6. Beaver Anal Secretions – Yes, this is true. The “ingredient”, listed as Castoreum, is widely found in vanilla flavored treats.

7. Coal Tar – Listed as “food coloring”, it’s in almost any artificially-dyed food.

8. Jet Fuel Additive – Who would have thought my morning cereal would contain Butylated hydroxytoluene?

9. Anti-freeze – Listed under “ingredients” as Propylene Glycol, better think twice before ordering that thick and creamy salad dressing!

An optimist would say that the next time you want an ice cream cone, just picture a side of beaver anal secretions.  That should help you stick to your diet.  Me though, I never wanted to learn how the sausage was made.  But at least now I know just what I’m putting into my body. This Girl Was Sick Of Her Tiny City Apartment Balcony. Wait Til You See What She Did To It.

Some might think that the outdoor deck in your apartment is just a waste of space. After all, you’re never out there, and it takes up space you’d love to add to your bedroom. But have you ever actually thought of how you could put it to better use? Well this Portlandian was inspired one day after complaining about Big City livin’ and the result is awesome-sauce. Check it out:

She always wanted a backyard, so her roommate surprised her with one. The cat was not impressed 😉

First she lined the balcony with a tarp for easy cleanup, then she spread some soil.

She then put a small fence to stop that lovely cat from trying to climb through the bars.

She rolled out the sod and gave it some water and they lined up some extra plants.

And of course, a chair was added, i.e., relax station.

Project complete!

2 months later, lawn is still going great, with only one small dead spot where everyone stands the most.

According to them, they let the grass grow without interruption.

Unless it gets to be too much, and only then do they break out scissors.

Add in a few lights, and you’ve got a great place to chillaxe.

How cool is that? Well I know what my weekend project is going to be. Toughest part now is getting MY roommate to agree 😉 Source: Imgur via Reddit

10 Bands You Probably Didn’t Realize Were Christian. And They Rock.

More and more people today are claiming themselves to be atheists. Losing your faith seems like something of a rite of passage in your 20’s now and it is more popular than ever. Interestingly enough, many bands that have been popular over the last few years still claim to be Christian and are quite proud of it. So in a world where it is less popular than ever to be a Christian, these bands are still waving the flag of Christianity.

    <p>Lifehouse</p> <img class="articleimg" src="http://images.viralnova.com/000/088/594/desktop-1414697687.jpg" width="650" alt="Lifehouse" /> <a class="social-share"><img src="/images/share.png" alt="share" /> </a> <a href="#" class="facebook addthis_button_facebook" style="float:none"></a> <a href="#" class="twitter addthis_button_twitter"></a> <a href="#" class="pinterest addthis_button_pinterest_share"></a> <a href="#" class="addthis_button_google_plusone google"></a> <a href="http://www.mtv.com/artists/lifehouse/photos/" target="_blank">mtv</a> Lifehouse is not often vocal about their faith, but lead singer Jason Wade is a known Christian and several songs reference the impact of Jesus in his life such as "Breathing" and "Everything." <p>Anberlin</p> <img class="articleimg" src="http://images.viralnova.com/000/088/593/desktop-1414697685.jpg" width="650" alt="Anberlin" /> <a class="social-share"><img src="/images/share.png" alt="share" /> </a> <a href="#" class="facebook addthis_button_facebook" style="float:none"></a> <a href="#" class="twitter addthis_button_twitter"></a> <a href="#" class="pinterest addthis_button_pinterest_share"></a> <a href="#" class="addthis_button_google_plusone google"></a> <a href="http://www.billboard.com/artist/279033/anberlin" target="_blank">billboard</a> Anberlin has stated on numerous occasions that they are indeed Christians but wouldn't classify their music as Christian rock. Despite this, they are often labeled as Christian rock, interviewed in Christian magazines, and even play in Christian music festivals. So...you might be a Christian band, Anberlin. <p>U2</p> <img class="articleimg" src="http://images.viralnova.com/000/088/596/desktop-1414697688.jpg" width="650" alt="U2" /> <a class="social-share"><img src="/images/share.png" alt="share" /> </a> <a href="#" class="facebook addthis_button_facebook" style="float:none"></a> <a href="#" class="twitter addthis_button_twitter"></a> <a href="#" class="pinterest addthis_button_pinterest_share"></a> <a href="#" class="addthis_button_google_plusone google"></a> <a href="http://musically.com/2014/09/16/era-itunes-giveaway-u2/" target="_blank">musically</a> It's not hard to see that U2 consistently puts Christian and Biblical themes into their music. Most of the songs on their album, "Pop" talk about wavering faith, and Bono even addresses Jesus directly. <p>Switchfoot</p> <img class="articleimg" src="http://images.viralnova.com/000/088/591/desktop-1414697684.jpg" width="650" alt="Switchfoot" /> <a class="social-share"><img src="/images/share.png" alt="share" /> </a> <a href="#" class="facebook addthis_button_facebook" style="float:none"></a> <a href="#" class="twitter addthis_button_twitter"></a> <a href="#" class="pinterest addthis_button_pinterest_share"></a> <a href="#" class="addthis_button_google_plusone google"></a> <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Oh-Gravity-Switchfoot/dp/B000KC6T0S" target="_blank">amazon</a> Switchfoot is often referred to as a Christian rock band; their albums are still distributed to Christian retail outlets through Sparrow Records/EMI CMG, their songs are featured on Christian radio and charts, they play at Christian festivals, and they are presented with Dove Awards (Christian music awards). The band has always philosophically disagreed with this label: "We're Christian by faith, not genre," Tim Foreman explained to Rolling Stone magazine in 2003. <p>Sufjan Stevens</p> <img class="articleimg" src="http://images.viralnova.com/000/088/590/desktop-1414697682.jpg" width="650" alt="Sufjan Stevens" /> <a class="social-share"><img src="/images/share.png" alt="share" /> </a> <a href="#" class="facebook addthis_button_facebook" style="float:none"></a> <a href="#" class="twitter addthis_button_twitter"></a> <a href="#" class="pinterest addthis_button_pinterest_share"></a> <a href="#" class="addthis_button_google_plusone google"></a> <a href="http://www.chartattack.com/tag/sufjan_stevens/" target="_blank">chartattack</a> This indie-acoustic act rose to prominence with his albums, "Michigan" and "Illinois." He is also a prominent Christian, goes to church every Sunday and is willing to openly discuss his faith with anyone who wants to know. <p>Underoath</p> <img class="articleimg" src="http://images.viralnova.com/000/088/589/desktop-1414697682.jpg" width="650" alt="Underoath" /> <a class="social-share"><img src="/images/share.png" alt="share" /> </a> <a href="#" class="facebook addthis_button_facebook" style="float:none"></a> <a href="#" class="twitter addthis_button_twitter"></a> <a href="#" class="pinterest addthis_button_pinterest_share"></a> <a href="#" class="addthis_button_google_plusone google"></a> <a href="http://www.mtv.com/artists/underoath/" target="_blank">mtv</a> This is one of the few bands on this list that openly admits their faith and promotes it. Though the band has been noted for "setting precedent in both Christian rock and beyond", only a portion of their albums are sold in the Christian marketplace. <p>P.O.D.</p> <img class="articleimg" src="http://images.viralnova.com/000/088/588/desktop-1414697680.jpg" width="650" alt="P.O.D." /> <a class="social-share"><img src="/images/share.png" alt="share" /> </a> <a href="#" class="facebook addthis_button_facebook" style="float:none"></a> <a href="#" class="twitter addthis_button_twitter"></a> <a href="#" class="pinterest addthis_button_pinterest_share"></a> <a href="#" class="addthis_button_google_plusone google"></a> <a href="http://loudwire.com/p-o-d-murdered-love-exclusive-lyric-video-premiere/" target="_blank">loudwire</a> P.O.D., Payable on Death, has represented Jesus since their first album in 1994, Snuff the Punk. The band has unabashedly penned songs for Christ, and have spread their testimony every chance they had. The band's frontman is part of a ministry called the Whosoevers that goes around spreading the Gospel to youth around the country. <p>Mumford and Sons</p> <img class="articleimg" src="http://images.viralnova.com/000/088/595/desktop-1414697687.jpg" width="650" alt="Mumford and Sons" /> <a class="social-share"><img src="/images/share.png" alt="share" /> </a> <a href="#" class="facebook addthis_button_facebook" style="float:none"></a> <a href="#" class="twitter addthis_button_twitter"></a> <a href="#" class="pinterest addthis_button_pinterest_share"></a> <a href="#" class="addthis_button_google_plusone google"></a> <a href="http://popcultureblog.dallasnews.com/2013/09/we-were-there-mumford-sons-at-gexa-energy-pavilion.html/" target="_blank">popcultureblog</a> This folk band has admitted that their lyrics are spiritual in nature and it's easy to see it in some of their songs. Their frontman's parents are even pastors in his home town. <p>The Avett Brothers</p> <img class="articleimg" src="http://images.viralnova.com/000/088/587/desktop-1414697680.jpg" width="650" alt="The Avett Brothers" /> <a class="social-share"><img src="/images/share.png" alt="share" /> </a> <a href="#" class="facebook addthis_button_facebook" style="float:none"></a> <a href="#" class="twitter addthis_button_twitter"></a> <a href="#" class="pinterest addthis_button_pinterest_share"></a> <a href="#" class="addthis_button_google_plusone google"></a> <a href="http://music-mix.ew.com/2013/10/26/avett-brothers-magpie-and-the-dandelion/" target="_blank">music-mix</a> The Avett Brothers have emerged as a hugely popular cult band in the indie-folk world, and have been accepted as basically a secular act even though a lot of their lyrics are very clearly about their Christian faith, with songs like "Me and God" and "Through My Prayers," it's hard to deny their Christian influence. <p>Evanescence</p> <img class="articleimg" src="http://images.viralnova.com/000/088/592/desktop-1414697684.jpg" width="650" alt="Evanescence" /> <a class="social-share"><img src="/images/share.png" alt="share" /> </a> <a href="#" class="facebook addthis_button_facebook" style="float:none"></a> <a href="#" class="twitter addthis_button_twitter"></a> <a href="#" class="pinterest addthis_button_pinterest_share"></a> <a href="#" class="addthis_button_google_plusone google"></a> <a href="http://evanescence.com/" target="_blank">evanescence</a> Evanescence co-founder and original primary songwriter Ben Moody came out of the Christian rock world, so it shouldn&rsquo;t come as a big surprise that many of the band&rsquo;s lyrical themes are either outright religious, or echo Christian themes.

See, not all Christian rock is lame. I’m sure you have listened to these bands before and never even realized that you were enjoying some sweet Christian rock tunes.

We See This Every Day Without Realizing It. This Photographer Just Captured It Beautifully.

No matter how familiar you are with the biggest cities in the United States, I guarantee you haven’t seen any of them quite like this before. Photographer Stephen Wilkes has been widely recognized for his fine art and commercial photography, and he found a new way to present these major cities. His photo series, titled Day To Night, shows the cityscapes in an entirely new light. Each of the transition images is actually collection of moments, unlike most normal photos which capture one moment in time. It takes about 50 photographs out of around 1,500 shots taken over the course of 12-15 hours to make just one of these photographs. During these shoots, Stephen doesn’t take bathroom breaks and barely eats. He very cautiously oversees the shoot so that the transition from day to night is perfect.

This Women Turned Her Mirror Into A Playground Of Imagination And It’s Too Impressive For Words.

Selfies. We’ve all seen them and, for better or for worse, we’ve all taken them. Regardless of how you feel about them, there’s no doubting that they’re here to stay. Especially when Instagram users like @mirrorsme are using their talent to help the selfie evolve from peace signs and duck faces into more impressive works (that have nothing to do with yoga pants). Although she says they take less than 30 minutes to make, @mirrorsme’s selfies are oozing with skill and effort. If these aren’t worth a like on Instagram, nothing is. Check them out!

If You’re Sitting Around This Guy, You Might End Up On The Internet. But It’s Pretty Awesome.

There are works of art that exist outside of what hangs on walls inside museums. For example, these simple works of Tokyo-based illustrator Hama-House. When he isn’t working, he likes to create speed sketches of everyday situations… and the resulting drawings are fantastic.

From people talking at a nearby table…

To an exhausted commuter taking a quick nap…

Hama-House is able to create perfect speed doodles of everyday situations.

He makes the mundane look amazing.

Although they are simplistic, it would be so hard for someone else to recreate them.

Somehow, these elaborate sketches make getting coffee or taking a nap on a train seem so much cooler. They are both simple and complicated, and contain so much emotion for something with such normal subjects. To see more of this awesome doodle work, check out his Instagram account.
